Who’s behind illegal business? Mathe Wa Ngara Speaks

Nancy Indoveria Kigunzu, commonly known as Mathe Wa Ngara, has expressed her confusion over the police’s interest in her. Court documents she filed reveal that the businesswoman believes she is being unfairly singled out as a ‘scapegoat’ despite her commitment to abiding by the law.

In legal filings presented by Advocate Shanice Maingi, she says, “I have never committed any crime in Kenya nor have I been involved in any criminal activities neither personally nor jointly with others and I therefore do not understand why the police are looking to arrest me,”

Nancy seeks court intervention to prevent her arrest, which has already occurred, and requests that she not be charged before a proper investigation is conducted, affording her the opportunity to present her case. She also urges the court to grant her anticipatory bail, having learned about the arrests in Ngara through media reports.

She also accuses the Directorate of Criminal Investigations and the Inspector General of Police of misusing their authority to illegally detain her two underage sons, aged 16 and 17.

She suspects that her son’s arrest is a tactic to coerce her and facilitate her subsequent arrest without adhering to due process.

Nancy notes that her sons, who were among those arrested, are still in custody at Pangani Police Station.

The scheduled court appearance for her sons and two others was slated for Monday, August 21.
