A number of six pupils of Ebenezer Academy and five other people died in a grisly road accident, Saturday Evening, 24th June 2023.
The fatal accident involving Busia Ebenezer Academy Bus and a trailer.
Those injured are fighting for their lives at Bungoma Referral Hospital.
The accident occurred at Kaberungo, Bungoma . The driver of the school bus died on the spot.
According to the Matete police who have since launched an investigation into the cause of the accident, the accident occurred at 7:30 pm.
Reports gathered say the school bus was hit by a Mercedes Benz that was travelling from Eldoret to Webuye town, leading the bus to hit a trailer in a head on collision.
The drive of the Mercedes Benz and a motorist flew the scene and police have since launched a manhunt.
In viral social media videos, graphic videos of dead bodies could be seen.
Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah has sent his condolences to the affected families while praying for the victims.
“Learnt of the tragic accident at Kaburengu this evening involving Ebeneza Academy bus of Busia with shock.
“I pray to God to give the families all the strength to conquer these painful times. Please accept my heartfelt sympathy.
“I wish survivors a speedy recovery, get well soon.” Said Omtatah in a statement shared on his social media page.
A woman, whose child survived the accident described it as “Truly, miracles happen.”
Speaking exclusively to the K47 digital news team, she could not help but praise and thank God after finding out that her son survived the grisly accident.
“Thank you, God, my son survived. May Almighty God be glorified,” she said.
One Social media user wrote, “Sending my deepest sympathies and condolences to the families of the precious children who lost their lives tragically in the Busia Ebenezer Academy bus accident along the Webuye-Eldoret highway. May their memories live on in your hearts and souls as you navigate through this unimaginable grief.”
Principal Secretary of State Department for Micro, small and medium Enterprises Development Susan Auma Mag’eni wrote, “My heartfelt condolences goes to the parents, family, relatives and the whole school fraternity of Ebenezer Academy Busia county, following the grisly road accident today afternoon along Eldoret Webuye road that reportedly claimed the lives of a number of pupils and their driver.”
It is good to not that transportation of students as from 5pm is not allowed. This was passed during DR Fred Matiang’i reign as CS of Education.
