Boda Boda riders, 20, arrested after attack on female motorist.

Over 20 Boda Boda riders arrested after attack on female motorist.

The National Police Service NPS says its officers based at Kitengela and DCI have arrested over 20 suspects and detained 26 motorbikes on 19th January 2024.

This is in response to an incident that reportedly occurred within Kitengela Township on 18th January 2024 when Boda Boda riders extensively damaged a vehicle and assaulted a male passenger.

The incident, according to NPS was initially reported on 18tb January 23 at Kitengela Police Station and happened at 1930 hrs along Kitengela- Athi River Road when a motor vehicle Nissan Juke driven by Conex Kemuto Onengo allegedly hit an unknown motorcycle carrying one pillion passenger.

Preliminary investigations, NPS detailed, suggest that the driver then sped off towards Namanga and hit a male pedestrian injuring him together with his 4yrs old son.

She is then reported to have drove towards the Old Namanga Road and hit an unknown motorcycle injuring his expectant pillion passenger.

“She then hit and injured another male pedestrian then drove through Tarmac Road, exiting the Shell Petrol Station at Enkare where the vehicle was blocked and stoned by rowdy Boda Boda riders.” Said NPS in a statement.

Her male co-driver was also beaten and is said to have sustained serious injuries while the female driver escaped unhurt.

“She was arraigned in Kajiadob Law Court on January 19, 2023 where she pleaded guilty to the charge of driving under the influence of alcohol and was fined Kshs. 100,000, in default of 1 year imprisonment.

The vehicle is reported to be awaiting inspection to inform additional charges.

The National Police Service is now appealing to members of the public to refrain from taking the law into their hands, and instead arrest suspects whatever the case may be, and hand over the same to Police for re-arrest as per the law.
