The Kenya National Examination Council Knec has come out to clarify on claims of KCSE upgrade fees.

In a statement via X platform formerly twitter, KNEC asked parents not fall prey to fraudsters purporting to be able to adjust KCSE scores.

In its statement, Knec downplayed the text sent to parents saying that no one can influence the scores of any national examination.

“Do not fall prey to fraudsters purporting to be able to adjust KCSE scores. Absolutely no one can influence the scores of any national examination.” KNEC said in a statement seen by the k47 digital news team.

A text had gone viral, asking parents to part with Ksh9000 so that KCSE results can be adjusted.

The text asked parents to send an index number and school random number.

” Hello send 9k ya registration Nikufanyie mpango upgrading ya kcse Nnaendelea saa hii NB requirements random number ‘school code, index number  ya strong student and weak students call tuongee(MPESA NUM 0797597615).” The text read.

This comes as KCSE Exam marking enters the final stage.

“In every rumor, there is always something related to it however negligible. So, take this seriously, there could be some truth in it. Investigate before going public. You people are hurting the credibility of our education system. Internal challenges remain internal…” One social media user posted.

Others called for DCI to investigate the examination body.

“Anything is possible in most of our institutions and knec is not an exception. Kindly collaborate with the @DCI_Kenya to trace the subscriber of the number above. In fact you needed not to warn the public instead you ought to apprehend the perpetrator. Tuweke akili juu!” Apondo Charles added.

The opposition chief Raila Amolo Odinga had, in recently called for probe of KNEC over exam mulpractice.
