The First Lady Rachel Ruto has sent a heartwarming message to her husband, the president of Kenya Dr William Samoe Ruto.
She likened her experience with her dad to the relationship between president William Ruto and their children. She wrote:
“Get the sheen right” I have many fond memories of my father. But what has stayed with me through the years are the moments spent polishing his shoes.
My father would make me polish his shoes in front of a mirror. And, whenever I thought I had achieved the perfect lustre, he would make me brush some more.
My young hands would grow tired until I got the perfect shine.
Without telling me he was teaching me, my father taught me that every glow comes after a gruesome brush.
Years later, I have seen Bill do the same with our children. Maybe it’s every father’s thing. To teach without telling.
Today, as we mark this Fathers’ Day, I celebrate all the fathers who teach their children that, in everything they do, they must endeavour to “get the sheen right!”
