Former Antubetwe Kiongo Word MCA Mr George Kaliunga is death.
He was shot by bandits as he followed up his stolen 71 one sheeps.
According to police reports, they were ambushed and that the MCA was shot because he was infront as he help police in tracing down the footprints of the bandits.
His sheeps were stollen at Kinanduba area in Igembe North
It has been gathered that the MCS was short in the chest and he was pronounced dead on reaching Maua Hospital in Meru county.
Mutuati regional police boss William Letting remarked that the goats had been stolen from the deceased at Malaene
He noted, “We were ambushed as we pursued them using their footprints. Kaliunga was shot because he was in front of us,”
Speaking through his official Twitter account, the Minister for Agriculture and Livestock development Mithika Linturi noted: “It’s with great sadness that I learned the passing of former MCA Antubetwe Kiongo Ward, Hon George Kaliunga, a great son of Meru, who was shot dead by bandits as he followed his stolen livestock at Kinanduba area in Igembe North.’
“As a CS in the Kenya Kwanza government, I assure the Meru community ay large, that I will pursue this matter together with my brother & colleague Interior CS @KindikiKithure to ensure justice is done to the family of Mr Kaliunga & pursue the perpetrators of this heinous act.’
“Acts of banditry within pastoral communities must come to an end by all means to safeguard lives of our farmers & their livestock.’
“Mr Kaliunga represented the people of Antubetwe Kiongo Ward with uniqueness & courteousness’
“May God grant peace to Kaliunga’s soul and extend blessings and grace to his family.”
