KRA clarify on claims Mitumba levy raised from Ksh 24.35 per Kg to Ksh 108.30.
The Revenue Authority KRA has come out to clarify on the viral claims online that KRA has raised the Mitumba levy.
The various news outlets had earlier reported that Mitumba levy has been raised by KRA from Ksh 24.35 per Kg to Ksh 108.30.
In a statement obtained by K47 News agencies, KRA says it has not revised levy on worn items of clothing (mitumba)
as reported in various social media platforms.
The rates for worn items of clothing, according to KRA, is 35% of the Customs value (price of consignment, freight and insurance fee) or USD 0.20 per Kilogram whichever is higher.
“Through the East Africa Community Gazete Vol-AT-1-NO-14 published on 30h June, 2022, the rates have been in effect since 1st July 2022. These rates
have been uploaded in the Customs systems including iCMS, accessible by all registered clearing agents.” KRA says.
