Kenyans have been hit by the high cost of living and inflation sets in.
Kenya Kwanza Gov’t, led by President William Samoe Ruto campaigned on platform of reducing to cost of Unga to below sh100 per 2Kg.
In recent days, president William Samoe Ruto affirmed to Kenyans that the price of Unga has reduced to between sh160 to sh150 and that could have been reduced to sh130 in the last 2 weeks.
This, according to the head of the state, represents a reduced price as compared to when he took power last year.
He says, when he was sworn in, the price of Unga was slightly above sh200.
In affirmation of Ruto’s claims, Rigathi Gachagua noted that president Ruto has achieved more than 50% of his promises to Kenyans.
However, K47 digital news team has done the donkey work and walked through various supermarkets.
A look into shelves reveals that the price of Unga is still high at slightly above sh200.
One Pauline Njoroge, a social media enthusiast and a digital strategist sarcastically said “Unga ya Umi imeona itoke pale bottom, iende pale up!”
“Once again, what happened to the Ruto/Rigathi promise regarding the price of Unga?”
Another one wrote, “Rigathi Gachagua and President Ruto are insisting to you that Unga is Kshs 150. But they have refused to go to the supermarket to confirm that even their GMOs Umi/Ajab unga are now 212 bob.
“Kenya Kwanza is the MOST useless Gov’t.
Mlichokichagua Kinawaramba.”
Kenyans are accusing President Ruto for abandoning populist pledges he made on the campaign trail to win the hearts of voters and pushing unpopular measures, including additional taxes on fuel which he had promised to scrap.
