Nelson Havi clarifies claim of him replacing Noordin Haji.

The former Law Society of Kenya president Nelson Havi has clarified that he has applied for position of Director of Public Prosecution DPP as reported by media.

Nelson Havi, took to Twitter to debunk the claims terming the false and inaccurately reported.

He expressed that he has no interest in applying for the position saying he is working at his legal company firm “Havi and Company Advocate”.

He called out the Standard Media journalist saying they have a duty to report accurately.

“Media houses and journalists have a duty to report accurately. The publication by The Standard is false.”

“I have not applied nor will I apply for the position of DPP. I continue offering legal services in my firm, Havi & Company Advocates, and serve the public as Chairman of RBA.”

Standard Media Reports:

The Standard Media group had reported, in its daily publication that Lawyer Cliff Ombeta has joined the long list of individuals seeking to replace Noordin Haji as the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

According to the Standard, Mr Ombeta applied for the influential position after President William Ruto appointed Haji as Director General of the National Intelligence Service (NIS).

“The controversial lawyer joins a growing list of legal practitioners who include former Law Society of Kenya President Nelson Havi, Kioko Kilokumi and Katwa Kigen.” The Statement shared by Haji read.

The Standard further claims that Havi was in February appointed chairman of Kenya Retirement Benefits Authority by President Ruto.

“I can confirm, Ombeta has put in his papers for the DPP position. He has the experience, legal acumen, temperament and wherewithal to do a sterling job as a public prosecutor.” Quoted the Standard as said by Havi’s lawyer.

Adding, “The ODPP needs Someone with the mental stamina and poise to give the office the dignity and legal partner who sought anonymity.
confidence it sorely merits,”

The Standard described Havi as, the lawyer who unsuccessfully vied for Bonchari parliamentary seat on United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ) ticket in the August 9, 2022 General Election.

Reacting to the claims, the influential blogger Abraham Mutai tweeted, “Do Kenyans really know that @NelsonHavi is the Chairman of the Kenya Retirement Benefits Authority? When did he apply to be the next Director of Public Prosecutions?”
