CS Nakhumicha says, despite Gov’t being broke, Treasury has released NHIF funds.
Cabinet Secretary for Health Susan Nakhumecha said the National Health Insurance Fund is operational after the national treasury disbursed funds for the programme.
The minister said the treasury released the money “this morning”.
She added that she had received a call from the Treasury Department on her way to an event in Sabatia.
However, CS could not say how much was handed over.
When pressed by reporter to provide a number, she replied, telling him to report and let her go back to the office to get the actual numbers.
CS also urges hospitals that has been refusing patients to continue providing services at the onset of NHIF .
However, the minister insisted that the government was bankrupt.
“In the past few days, I said that the government is bankrupt. “It’s no secret,” Nakhumicha said.
Hospitals refused patients who wanted to pay with NHIF cards after the program failed to process payments.
The CS had confirmed a current cash crunch, saying the government was bankrupt and unable to disburse funds to the NHIF.
