Wetangula faces impeachment axe 🪓
The Azimio MMs have threatened to impeach National Assembly Speaker Hon. Moses Wetangula.
The legislators, on Thursday 8th 2023, detailed that they would table a motion of impeachment to the floor of the House in the coming week if the Speaker fails to uphold their decision to topple nominated MP Sabina Chege as the Deputy Minority Whip.
“We have decided that first and foremost to bring a motion of impeachment against the Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetangula,” said Minority Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi as reported by Citizen TV.
They detailed that they are drafting the motion, which will be ready by Tuesday next week. And they shall be asking him in line with the practice that he prioritises that motion so that Azimio can dispel it as soon as possible.
The MPs were reportedly speaking outside Parliament minutes after the speaker suspended a sitting for 15 minutes following chaos which erupted over his ruling to retain Chege in the position.
The Ugunja MP accused the Wetangula of being biased owing to his affiliation to the Kenya Kwanza regime, thus claiming he is not fit to hold the position.
“This House cannot be run in the manner that is being run for it to achieve the results it is supposed to achieve. We think it is under the wrong leadership,” the Ugunja MP said.
Azimio lawmakers believes that Wetangula’s failure to de-whip Sabina Chege and replace her with Embakasi West MP Mark Mwenje is a sabotage to their coalition and a plot to impose leadership on them.
Kathiani MP Robert Mbui stated that the main issue is because of a decision that has been made by the speaker, not now but he has shown the indication from before that he is going to use the majority to impose leadership on the Minority.
Mbui, termed Wetangula’s ruling as ‘immoral and disgusting’, saying they cannot allow the majority to dictate to them about their House leadership.
Mbuvi detailed that they have made a decision who they want to whip them. “It is not logical and moral for anyone to purport to want to sit in an office where they cannot work; if anything, that is the most immoral thing anyone can do. If I was the former deputy minority whip, I would have resigned,”
Mbuvi wondered why would someone want to continue earning a stipend from an office which he will not occupy anyway? “It is unfortunate and disgusting and that is why we have a problem will not allow the majority to continue dictating to us; let them deal with their members and allow us to deal with ours.”
